The choice is yours. 

What is it that separates an individual out from the crowd? 

It’s 5:30 am and the world has not stirred into action yet, (well at least the part that I’m currently in) I’m pondering important Philosophical questions as one does at this hour. 

Why do some people rise to fame and fortune and others don’t? 

Or more accurately put – Why do some individuals make a difference and the great majority doesn’t? 

I think the operative word here is difference or different. 

There is and has always been pressure from any group to have conformity, any group needs rule and regulations to exist as a group, whether it is a small group like a family unit or a large group like a country, as well as anything in between. Without rules, laws, policies, codes of conduct, etc, you would have anarchy and chaos. 

All these things should have agreement from the group members and be based on sane survival concepts for the group and its’ individual members. When you have those in place you have harmony and a sane group. 

Through out history there have been times where individuals have challenged the existing rules or, more importantly put, the agreements that existed at that time. 

Aristotle challenged the flat world theory that existed, and was persecuted for it. 

Einstein challenged the accepted theories of the time. 

Beethoven challenged the accepted musical standards of the time, and music changed from that point in time, as have others along the way. Count Basey, The Beatles, Hendrix, etc. 

In the field of Art, Individuals like Monet, Da Vinci, Dali to name a few, had huge impacts on the way art was viewed. 

The Leading forefathers of the United States of America, (Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Etc) changed politics and the class system of that time, into what has endued to be the leading world power of today. 

Vidal Sassoon challenged the accepted approach and rules of the time. 

There have been numerous individuals through history that have disagreed with the accepted norm(al) and bought about positive change, through NEW REALITIES with a new approach or a new viewpoint. 

It’s much easier to go along with the crowd and the status quo of what is acceptable and the way things are type of attitude. 

But it occurs to me, that if everybody did that in the past then we would have a very different world today than which we live in today. 

(On the reverse side of that, if more people had stood up and said things can be better or different than what the where, maybe we would have a better world?) 

The great advancements in any field that I can think of have come from individuals who have disagreed with the way things are and have had the guts and integrity to do something about it. 

I have a T-shirt that is one of my favorites; it reads – THOSE WHO ARE DIFFERENT CHANGE THE WORLD. THOSE WHO ARE THE SAME KEEP IT THAT WAY. 

These days the pressure to go with the flow is greater than it’s ever been, the speed with which things happen the control that is exerted by huge multinational companies around the world, make it a bit harder for individual ideas and concepts to get to the forefront. 

As one of my favorite people of all time once said. “ NO SIXTEEN INCH ARMOUR PLATE CAN STOP AN IDEA” (L RON HUBBARD) 

I have, over the last few years, come across the well entrenched agreement that - Ammonia has to be in Hair color for it to work. (Everybody knows that.) 

No one can tell me where that concept actually came from, but it is generally accepted as being true. (By the way that’s not true!) 

That idea is slowly but surely being changed. 

Thanks to some individuals who had guts to disagree.
